As a student Senior English was one of my favorite classes. But I was one of those geeks. I would be the perpetual student if it didn't cost insane booku bucks. I have loved teaching since I started student teaching eight years ago. This year I am especially concerned with how things are not going. Time is going. Rolling... rolling... Information trudges up to their ear drums beats on it for a second then moves along as they are plugged in and over stimulated. Constantly questioning why engaging in any activity other than googling is relevant. Don't even get them started about reading a book! In the meantime, I struggle to teach skills using seemingly irrelevant curriculum while combatting behaviors that could derail the most dedicated students. Whatever happened to learning for the sake of learning? For occupying the space in between your ears with more than what is trending on twitter or who got a diet coke at lunch.
